In order to meet the growing demand for carbon components and considering their sensitivity to impacts, stone chippings and crashes,
jostec composites provides professional carbon repair. Providing end-to-end service from the analysis to the repair of visible and invisible
damage we also offer non-destructive testing in cooperation with a partner company.
- Repair of carbon components for biking, sailing, motorsports, fun sports,
- restoration of full stability and strength
- non-destructive testing using pulsed thermography
- repainting of carbon components
- verifying the profitability of a repair job
We provide expert advice on an individual basis. Contact us. Please send us photographs of the damaged part / spot
or give us a call in advance.
Different
wall thicknesses on the frame as well as pores or damaged areas are
displayed in different colors. The trend to use more and more CFK-based
add-on parts for carbon bikes has acquired an almost threatening dimension.
Safety-related parts such as the seat post or the fork are subject to
bending stress. However, the main advantages of the CFK material come
to bear mainly under tensile stress while bending forces should be avoided.
In order to prevent notch effects, differences in wall thickness, air
inclusions or other material faults from causing a part to fail, such
parts should be examined through non-destructive testing. We carry out
such tests in a quick and skilled manner. For this purpose the frames
/ add-on parts should be delivered in a disassembled state.
Prices
for pulsed thermography: seat post€ 50.00; carbon fork € 75.00;
carbon frame € 100.00 (net price without cost of transportation).
Quotes for other combinations or individual components are provided upon
request.
We do not
pass any purchase recommendations as no brand is entirely free from
damage.
Repair of an MTB carbon frame with a typical damage on the top tube
caused by the handlebar / brake lever. Exposure of the damaged spot
incl. delaminated carbon layers. First the damaged spot is sealed again
with a non-compacted laminate in order to restore a closed frame (hollow
body). Using a specifically selected epoxy resin and applying the ideal
processing temperature we achieve partial hardening of this sealing
layer which then gets fully hardened together with further structural
layers in a fully automatic tempering oven under vacuum conditions and
controlled heating. This ensures optimum binding of all layers of this
two-phase process, resulting in maximum stiffness without any weight
increase. To validate the reliability of the process we record the temperature,
hardening and vacuum curves for the entire process.
